The Ernst Shell pattern throw in woven cotton
$80.00 – $170.00
There’s no home like your own home; this old Irish proverb is as true now as it was in the nineteenth century. This was the century that the Jacquard Loom process was invented, and the era of German Naturalist and Zoologist Ernst Haeckel. Famous for his collection of detailed scientific sketches and paintings of the flora and fauna that he studied, we thought it very appropriate to adapt one of his sketches to be reproduced using the most cutting-edge weaving techniques of his time.
This 100% cotton woven throw will not only make your home all the more inviting but use a pattern of one of the most entrancing homes in nature, the spiral of a snail shell. The proportions of the shell in nature are synonymous with ideal measurements of the Golden Ratio and Corbusier’s La Modular, a harmonious relationship between dimensions that geometrically describe a spiral form.
This design bridges the present with the past to bring an exquisite visual and tactile texture to any contemporary interior. Using an engraving style technique to recreate the illustration imbues the hypnotic form of the spiral with a whole other level of impact when viewed up close, reinforced by the flecks of color between the cream white and charcoal black of the main hues.
It comes in three sizes, detailed in the accompanying images, each with a design specifically created for its respective dimensions.
Designed here in our studio in Dublin, Ireland, and manufactured on the east coast of the United States, it is a combination of modern design techniques married to the aesthetic of the Jacquard Loom weaving process.
